Shannon Brown
Coach Brown is entering her first year as Head Girls
Basketball Coach at Paschal. She brings
27 years of experience coaching basketball with her, most recently at Poteet
High School in Mesquite, TX where she served as Varsity assistant and JV coach
for the girls’ basketball program and as an assistant for girls’ track. Prior to Poteet, Coach Brown spent 10 years
as the Head Basketball Coach at The Oakridge School in Arlington, TX and 10
years as a college assistant, 8 of which were at the Division I level. Overall, her successes include qualifying for
the playoffs numerous times, 1 undefeated district season, advancing to the
Regional Quarterfinal round and receiving several All-District honors including
1 Player of the Year and 1 Offensive Player of the Year while at Poteet. At The
Oakridge School, accolades include qualifying for the Southwest Preparatory
Conference Division I Championships 4 times, 5 players going on to play
collegiate basketball, at least 1 player received All-SPC honors every year and
numerous players have received SPC All-North Zone awards. In 10 years as a
collegiate women’s basketball coach, Coach Brown was integral in helping her
teams achieve 4 Conference Championships and qualify for post season play on 4
occasions. The teams she worked with reached such milestones as first ever
conference championships, first ever tournament championships and first ever
trips to the postseason. In addition, she
has recruited and coached players who have received in total 28 All-Conference
awards, 16 Academic All-Conference honors, 2 All-Region winners, 2 All-American
Honorable Mention selections and 1 Academic All-American. In 2018, Coach Brown was inducted into the
University of Texas at Arlington Athletics Hall of Honor with the 2005 women’s
basketball team as a member of the coaching staff.
Coach Brown graduated from Hobbs High School in Hobbs, NM
and continued her playing career at Adams State University in Alamosa, CO where
she earned NAIA District 7 All-Academic team honors. She later transferred to finish her playing
career and education at NCAA Division II New Mexico Highlands University in Las
Vegas, NM. Brown graduated with a Bachelor
of Science in Biology and currently holds State of Texas teaching certificates
in Life Science and Physical Education.
When she’s not coaching basketball, Coach Brown
enjoys traveling and all things ocean and beach. She has a goal of visiting as many Caribbean
islands as possible and has set foot on 11 so far. Other hobbies include cooking, spending time
with family and doting on her dogs.
